Android now has more apps than iOS

According to a study by appFigures, a specialized platform for developers, the Android application market, the Play Store, now has more applications than the Apple market reserved for its iOS devices.

active_apps_2014 The Google Play Store would offer more than 1.43 million official applications, when Apple offers "only" 1.21 million. Behind, we find Amazon whose market dedicated to its Kindle platforms displays 300,000 applications.

This is the first time that Google has passed Apple on this subject, and 2014 was a pivotal year for the popularity of Android with developers since the number of applications simply doubled between 2013 and 2014. Meanwhile, Apple will have seen a 60% increase in the number of applications over the year.

The situation was predictable, since Android remains active_devs_2014 currently the most used mobile OS worldwide. Google equips 80% of the mobile devices on the world market, which represents a fleet of potential customers attractive to developers, who now turn to Android as a priority.

The number of developers working on Android is estimated at 388,000 in 2014, compared to 288,000 for Apple. The other factor that explains the multiplication of applications offered by the Play Store is the more flexible policy led by Google. Where Apple places heavy constraints on developers, Google is much more tolerant.

Still, the Apple platform is the most profitable. If Google and Apple charge identical commissions of around 30% on the sales of each application, users spend more on the App Store than on the Play Store. Apple recently reported that it has generated $ 15 billion in revenue from its app market. At the same time, Google said it had generated $ 7 billion in sales from the sale of applications.
