Capture screen, screen shot, print screen no matter what you call it. Each device, depending on its model or operating system, has a different way of capturing the screen. Do you know how to take a screenshot on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac or Apple Watch?
To take screenshots on iPhone or iPad, it depends on the model you have. Regarding the Mac and the Apple Watch, they are identical, regardless of the model. Finally, the Apple TV, you will have to go through your Mac.
1. Take a screenshot on an iPhone, iPod touch or iPad
1.1. Screen capture on iPhone X or later, or iPad with Face ID
Let's start with the latest diPhone models and iPads with Face ID.
1.1.1. Press quickly AND simultaneously lock button + volume + ;
1.1.2. In the lower right corner appears the thumbnail of this screenshot, with no action on your part, it will save itself;
1.1.3. Otherwise, you can long press the thumbnail to share it or swipe it to the left to reject it;
1.1.4. Tap it to have these options and more: share it, delete it with the icon Basket or annotate it.
Note: the thumbnail can work with several close screenshots.
Do you have Apple Pencil on your iPad? Slide in the lower left or right corner to trigger a screenshot.
1.2. Screen capture on iPhone 8 or older, iPad or iPod touch
Regarding other models, those with the home button, the method changes a little.
1.2.1. Press quickly AND simultaneously lock button + the home button ;
1.2.2. If you have at least iOS 11, you also have the options of annotation, sharing and deletion with the thumbnail in the lower left corner.
1.3. Screen capture without buttons
Whether you have motor problems or temperamental pimples, there is AssistiveTouch. Whatever the model of your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad, AssistiveTouch is there.
First, activate AssistiveTouch if you haven't already done so:
1.3.1. Open the app Settings ;
1.3.2. Access Accessibility > To touch > AssistiveTouch ;
1.3.3. Activate AssistiveTouch ;
Now a circle appears on your screen. You can move it freely.
1.3.4. Press on Customize parent menu ;
1.3.5. Adjust the number of lines;
1.3.6. Press one of the icons or an empty box;
1.3.7. Choose Apparatus or directly Screenshot ;
1.3.8. Validate with OK ;
Now use AssistiveTouch to take a screenshot on your iPhone.
1.3.9. Open AssistiveTouch with the circle on your notch;
1.3.10. Press on Screenshot or Apparatus > After > Screenshot.
The thumbnail will appear as with any screenshot.
2. Take a screenshot with your Apple Watch
You don't have to worry about the model of your watch. However, to be able to take screen shots with your Apple Watch, you will need to activate them.
If you take your iPhone:
2.1. Open the app Watch ;
2.2. Stay on tab My watch ;
2.3. Press General ;
2.4. Activate Activate screenshots.
You can also activate and deactivate directly on your watch.
2.5. Come on Settings > General ;
2.6. Activate Activate screenshots.
Now you just have to press the 2 buttons of the Apple Watch simultaneously and quickly Digital crown and the side button to take a screenshot.
3. Retrieve a screenshot from your iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch
A screenshot taken on one of your iDevice is automatically saved in the same place. For the Apple Watch, the screenshots will be saved on the iPhone with which it is paired.
Take your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch then:
3.1. Open the app Pictures ;
3.2. Go longlet Album ;
3.3. Go down and find the album named Screenshots.
Of course, you can find them in All the pictures and then copy them to other albums.
4. Perform and locate a screen print on Mac
If you come from Windows, you know the key notch print (and capture tools). No need to look for it, this key does not exist on Mac. instead, you have keyboard shortcuts and capture tools.
4.1. Keyboard shortcuts
The most common keyboard shortcuts are:
4.1.1. cmd + maj + 3 who will take a screenshot of your entire screen (or screens);
4.1.2. cmd + maj + 4 will take a screenshot of the selected area, when your mouse cursor becomes a cross;
4.1.3. cmd + maj + 5 will open the screenshot tool.
For all screenshots taken, a thumbnail appears right, at the bottom with the same possibilities as on iOS. This means that you can share it, delete it or even annotate it.
By default, these captures are saved on the desktop.
To not save the screenshots on the desktop, but only to make a copy, and why not use the universal clipboard, add ^ in front of the suits.
Good to know : with the universal clipboard you can copy your screenshots from your Mac to paste them on your iPhone and vice versa.
You can enable or disable these screenshot shortcuts:
4.1.4. Open them System Preferences ;
4.1.5. Click on Keyboard ;
4.1.6. Go longlet Shortcuts ;
4.1.7. In the options on the left, click Screenshots ;
4.1.8. Check or uncheck the shortcuts you want.
4.2. The Screen Capture tool
To access the tool Screenshot, you have several possibilities:
- Use Spotlight, the search bar;
- Come on Finder > Applications > Utilities > Screenshot ;
- Use the key combination cmd + maj + 5.
At that time, you have a bar with several options that appear. You can choose :
4.2.1. What will be captured: the entire screen, a window, a selection;
4.2.2. If it's a video, a screen recording of your entire screen or a selection;
4.2.3. The Options : o will save the screenshot, activate or not a timer and other options (the thumbnail, the mouse pointer and the memory of the last selection);
4.2.4. The last point: Capture which will take a screen print on Mac according to the characteristics chosen previously.
5. Take a screenshot of your Apple TV with AirPlay
You may have found tips for making screenshots of your Apple TV with various connections, not always practical. Here, everything is done without cable.
You must meet certain conditions:
5.1.1. Activate it Wireless on your Mac;
5.1.2. Your Mac and Apple TV must be connected to Wi-Fi;
Now on your Apple TV:
5.1.3. Come on Settings > AirPlay and HomeKit ;
5.1.4. Click on Apple tv to pass Yes;
5.1.5. Go down and click Access ;
5.1.6. Select your convenience.
Good to know : you can very well select Everyone the time to make your captures to simplify the maneuvers then pass a more strict setting later.
5.2. Take the screenshot
Now that everything is ready, leave your Apple TV on and take your Mac. Then:
5.2.1. Open the app QuickTime Player ;
5.2.2. Come on File > New video recording ;
By default, the camera of your Mac is activated, you will be able to change the source of the camera, the source of the microphone (often linked to the camera) and the quality.
5.2.3. In the player control, click on the small arrow, directly right of the record button;
5.2.4. Select, at a minimum, the name of your Apple TV in Camra;
5.2.5. Your Apple TV may ask you for screen sharing permission;
From the screen of your Apple TV will be copied to video. It will duplicate its content on the QuickTime window.
5.2.6. When you are on the right notch? avoid any movement on the QuickTime window to make the controller disappear;
5.2.7. Take a screenshot of the QuickTime window using one of the methods previously seen (see the steps 4.).
Good to know : Use the Screen Capture tool and start a timer to make sure the controller has time to disappear.
The screenshot from your Apple TV will be saved as a screen print from your Mac.
