Google has designed a new Focus Mode for Android 10 that helps reduce distractions and get things done. Here's how to use it.
Android's new Focus Mode can help keep you entertained when you are checking for exams, or just want to turn off constant ping of notifications and messages from your smartphone. Not looking at your phone when you have decided to focus on another task seems easy. However, the frequency with which we are used by our modern devices is very high. The temptation is therefore permanent. You say for example "I'm just going to check this message very quickly", then you realize that you spent 20 minutes on Twitter.
Focus Mode is part of the toolbox of Google Digital Wellbeing on Android. It can temporarily pause the apps that are distracting you such as social media and messaging apps like WhatsApp and Facebook. With Focus Mode, you can silence these apps so that your smartphone does not receive notifications. This functionality is slightly different from the "Do not disturb" option which silences your entire phone. You may want to leave important work apps like Slack open while closing other apps you don't need right now.
You can set schedules that will automatically activate Focus Mode at certain times of the day, such as when you are at school or at work. You can also choose to take a "break" from your main activity and reactivate the notifications for 5, 10 or 30 minutes. Here's how to use it.
- Go to Parameters, then Digital well-being and parental control.
- Find it focus mode in the "Ways to Log Out" section.
- Select in the list applications of your choice
- Press on now.
Once Focus Mode is activated, you can select two options to deactivate it. The Disable Now feature will completely disable it and revert to your phone's default notification settings. The "Take a Break" service allows you to choose the period during which you want to reopen notifications for the applications you have selected. The screenshot below illustrates what I said.
