Production of the iPhone 9 (or iPhone SE 2) could be delayed due to the coronavirus that has killed more than 100 people in China.

If we touched on the possible impact of this virus on Apple's business in China, Mark Gurman of Bloomberg today confirms these concerns.

The vast majority of iPhones are made in China, specifically at Foxconn Zhengzhou and Pegatron near Shanghai. These two sites are more than 500 kilometers from Wuhan, the epicenter of this viral epidemic. Despite this situation, Gurman says that the distance does not immunize anyone from the effects of the virus . Add that there is also great concern in these regions.

One of Gurman?s sources said the production line would likely be halted or experience significant delays. Obviously, this will affect Apple and all companies that use Chinese suppliers.

In the case of Apple, the problem is more evident since the company is about to launch the iPhone 9. Production should have started in the coming weeks, but the coronavirus could significantly delay the roadmap : I can't imagine a scenario other than this. The delays relate to the supply of raw materials, but also the manufacturing, assembly, testing and shipping of products from China to the rest of the world. The concern is that some Foxconn and Pegatron factories may close for several days.

As for the iPhone 12, production is expected to start only in a few months. It is to be hoped that the spread of this virus will have ended.
