Mac sales down in the last quarter of 2019

enero 16, 2020

Global Mac sales declined in the fourth quarter of 2019, according to the latest estimates released by Gartner.

Mac sales

In the last three months of 2019, Apple shipped approximately 5.26 million Macs, down 3% from 5.43 million in the 2018 quarter.

Apple?s market share also declined from 7.9% in the fourth quarter of 2018 to 7.5% in the fourth quarter of 2019. The drop in shipments occurred when the global PC market experienced its first growth since 2011, especially thanks to the new Windows 10 devices.

Apple, however, maintained its position as the world's fourth-largest PC maker, behind Lenovo, HP and Dell. Lenovo remains in first place with more than 17 million computers sold worldwide. Behind Apple, we find Asus and Acer. Dell posted the strongest year-over-year growth, with + 12.1%. In the United States alone, Apple performed slightly better with 2.21 million Macs sold and 0.8% more than the same period in 2018.

For 2019 as a whole, Mac sales were down 0.9% from the previous year. In total, Apple sold 18.35 million Macs, still confirming its fourth place in the world ranking. Its market share is 7.1%.

Going forward, Gartner believes that the PC market will continue to decline despite growth this year. Things could change with the advent of folding PCs, many of which will debut later this year. As always, innovation is one of the key factors for continued growth in a complex market like the PC market.

Apple?s sales therefore fell in 2019, despite the release of many new MacBook models, including the 16-inch Pro and the new Mac Pro.
