Nicolas Sarkozy presented the main lines yesterday. The Large Loan earmarks part of its resources for digital. It is thus planned to offer very high speed (THD) to 70% of French households within ten years.
2 billion euros for whom?
This resolution is superimposed with a first stated in 2006: 4 million French households connected to THD in 2012, or 13% of French households. With 650,000 households eligible for THD today according to Arcep, 500% growth is therefore planned for 2012. Then again 500% for the 2020 target. Ambitious target, perhaps too much?
A total of 2 billion euros will be allocated to the deployment of THD infrastructure. It remains to be seen how they will be distributed among the operators. Bouygues and SFR recently complained of being disadvantaged in this business compared to Orange.
