According to the figures IDC, Apple is far ahead of other manufacturers with regard to the sale of tablets; iPads sold well in 2019 to the point where sales of Samsung, Huawei and Amazon tablets combined did not reach Apple tablet sales.
So, in the fourth quarter of 2019, Apple was able to sell 15.9 million iPads, compared to 12.9 million in the same period a year ago; there is therefore a gain of 22.7%. As a result, the Californian’s market share was 36.5% during the period. According to IDC, “The new iPad launched in the last quarter represented nearly 65% of Apple’s shipments and enabled the company to gain market share, to 36.5% compared to 29.6% last year”.
On the side of other manufacturers: Samsung has sold 7 million tablets (and 7.6 million in Q4 2019), Huawei has passed 4 million copies (and 4.1 million in Q4 2019), Amazon has sold 3.3 million (and 4.7 million in Q4 2019) and Lenovo, 2.5 million (and 2.3 million in Q4 2019) in the fourth quarter of 2019.
As for the whole year 2019, Apple is still the number one seller of tablets. IDC reports that a total of 49.9 million iPads was sold by Apple last year, compared to 43.3 million in 2018; this corresponds to an increase of 15.2% and a market share of 34.6%.
Then we find Samsung with 21.7 million tablets. Then we see Huawei with 14.1 million copies, Amazon with 13 million copies sold and Lenovo with 8.5 million units.
In total for the year 2019, 144.1 million tablets were sold by the manufacturers. Or a decrease of 1.5% compared to 2018; this year, 146.2 million units have passed.
